Sweet Briar Too: The right 'Stuff'

Man Stuff made every pole a winning one to capture Saturday's $104,000 Sweet Briar Too Stakes, at Woodbine.

It was the first added-money score for Man Stuff, trained by Nick Gonzalez and ridden by Eurico Rosa da Silva, who entered the Sweet Briar Too off a troubled trip in the grassy Alywow Stakes.

Man Stuff broke sharply and made the lead with Skylara stalking from second position in the seven-furlong 'Poly' sprint. Favoured Roxy Gap, carrying 124lbs, raced along the rail from third position as Man Stuff clocked a half-mile in a moderate :46.55.

Man Stuff opened up a length and a half lead into the stretch as Roxy Gap, waiting for racing room along the rail, angled out but could not chase down Man Stuff.  The bay filly stopped the clock in 1:23.03, good for a one-length victory over Roxy Gap who was two and three-quarter lengths clear of Miss Inclined.

Da Silva was impressed with how his three-year-old filly, who carried 116lbs, handled older company.

"She's so professional," said da Silva. "She took the lead and she was running very relaxed. I did pull the trigger a little bit early. We had the advantage of the weight and she ran very strong."
