2012 CTHS Canadian-Bred Yearling Sale Open Session Results
As the 2012 CTHS Canadian-Bred Yearling Sale comes to a close, with the Open Session, the negative impacts of the Government’s announcement to end the Slots at Racetracks Program has become ever prevalent. It began with a 32% decrease in the number catalogued for this session and by sale time another 12% were not offered for sale. Gross sales decreased dramatically by 61.29% as compared to 2011 figures.
Both the average and the median were greatly affected as well with the average down 50.07% to $4,903 from $9,819 in 2011. The median decreased from $5,000 to $3,500 representing a 30% decline. Over the past decade since the CTHS has been involved in the Open Sale this year’s average and median are by far the lowest attained.
Topping the Open Session was Hip #374 purchased for $26,000 by Robert P. Tiller, Agent for Rolph Davis. The chestnut colt by Giant Gizmo out of Great Gazoo was sold by Beth Hancock, Agent for Cedar Creek Farm.
The second highest priced yearling in this session was Hip #333 purchased for $23,000 by John Mattine, Agent for RCC Stable. The dark bay or brown filly by Giant Gizmo out of Bold Tigress was sold by Paradox Farm Inc., Agent for breeders Kurt & Kaethi Gsell.
The CTHS Ontario Division would like to extend a big thank you to all those who participated in this year’s sale and congratulate all for their perseverance in these uncertain times.
