Canadian Graded Stakes for 2010 Announced

The Canadian Graded Stakes Committee met on January 30th to review the races eligible for grading for 2010, resulting in 35 races being given graded status.

Following the meeting, Michael Byrne, Chairman of the Canadian Graded Stakes Committee, announced that five races received Grade 1 status, nine races received Grade 2 status, and 21 races were given Grade 3 status.

Two changes were made from the 2009 schedule: the Nearctic Stakes was upgraded from Grade 2 to Grade 1, and the Scotts Highlander Stakes was upgraded from Grade 3 to Grade 2.

To qualify for graded status in Canada, races must carry the following minimum purses; $250,000 CDN - Grade 1, $150,000 CDN - Grade 2 and $100,000 CDN - Grade 3.
